Martha & Abraham Gibbons
Martha Gibbons
Martha Lukens Gibbons was the oldest of Rebecca's children.

Martha married Abraham Gibbons of Lancaster County, a first cousin of Charles Huston's mother, and it was through this connection that Charles and Isabella Huston formed the acquaintance which led to their engagement in marriage.

In 1847, Rebecca Lukens retired from active management in the firm now known as A. Gibbons and Company. She became a silent partner. A year later, Abraham Gibbons and company took another partner, Dr. Charles Huston, yet another son-in-law of Rebecca Lukens. At that time, Rebecca left the business altogether. The Gibbons and Huston partnership lasted until 1855, when Gibbons left the business to take up a career in banking when he co-founded The Bank of Chester Valley. He became the first President of that bank. They sold their share to Isabella and Dr. Charles Huston. This sale gave Abram Gibbons the necessary capital to attract more capital, thus allowing the bank to flourish and succeed.
